Luke Hares has written a BoneWeight Copy script for Blender-2.59 and posted it on blenderartists.org I found a potential bug which can cause that the initialised attributes may be lost during a blender session. When that happens, the script will get unusable and yield some errors about “BWC… not found”.
I fixed that problem and added some more functionality to that script for our SL issues which otherwise might cause problems (like missing bones) or copy “unneeded” data (like Morph shapes).
18-jan-2012: fixed compatibility issue with Blender 2.62
02-Sep-2011: Added extra features
31-aug-2011:Fixed Compatibility issue with Blender 2.59
Installation
Get Blender 2.60 or newer
start it fresh (to default start screen)
Open User preferences
Switch to the AddOns Tab
Select category “3D View”
Locate “Copy Bone Weights”
Enable the check mark on the right.
Save As Default
Now you find Bone Weight Copy in the Tool Shelf, whenever you have selected an Object which has weighted vertex groups.
Hint: If you do not find the Copy Bone Weight Script in your Blender distribution, you can always get it from one of the links above (note: it works only for Blender 2.59 and newer)
Usage
Ensure that your Model (the target) and the model from where you want to copy the weights (the source) are both visible.
Select your model (the target)
Go to edit mode and select all vertices which shall be weighted (in most cases all vertices)
Go to Object mode
Select the Source (From where the weights shall be copied)
In the weight copy panel select Interpolation: 2 and check both options (“Only Named Bones” and “Copy Empty Groups”
Copy Bone Weights
Copy from multiple targets
Many example files for Second Life use a Character with three separated parts (head, upper body, lower body). You can do a weight copy from those characters as follows:
Copy the Head part:
Select your target mesh and enter edit mode
Select only the vertices of the head part
Now go to object mode, select your target meshm then the head of the source mesh.
In the weight copy panel select Interpolation: 2 and check both options (“Only Named Bones” and “Copy Empty Groups”
Proceed in the same way with the upper body:
Select your target mesh and enter edit mode
Select only the vertices of the upper body part
Now go to object mode, select your target mesh, then the upper body of the source mesh.
In the weight copy panel select Interpolation: 2 and check both options (“Only Named Bones” and “Copy Empty Groups”
And finally do it again for the lower body in exactly the same way:
Select your target mesh and enter edit mode
Select only the vertices of the lower body part
Now go to object mode, select your target mesh, then the lower body of the source mesh.
In the weight copy panel select Interpolation: 2 and check both options (“Only Named Bones” and “Copy Empty Groups”
Now your target object should be weighted.
The control Parameters
Interpolation: When > 0 tries to find better matching weights by subdividing the meshes (the interpolation value is the number of subdivisions used for the interpolation) and thus having more accurate surface matching.
Only Named Bones: When checked, only those weight groups get copied for which the armature has bones. For avatar.blend that means, only the weights for the bones are copied. All weights in the morph groups are ignored. Note that empty groups will not be copied (see next feature)
Copy empty Groups: When checked, also empty weight groups will be created on the target object(s).
Hint for mesh makers
If you use avatar.blend or any skeleton which defines the vertext groups for the default Morph shapes, then you may want to check “Only Named Bones” this ensures, that the target object will get only the bone’s weight groups.
Import issues?
If you can not upload your mesh, then this may be caused by not having defined weight groups for all bones in your object. If your source object can be imported to Second Life, but your target object can not, then you will want to check “Copy empty Groups” because that will ensure that all weight groups for all bones are transfered to the target object.
Feedback
Please send any feedback, if it does not work or behaves wrong. Many thanks to all involved people who have helped me to get this done so quickly. Have fun, Gaia
Thanks
Special thanks to the original script author (Luke Hares) and to Domino Marama, who has helped me to jump start into blender-2.5 GUI programming. And many thanks to the Blender developers on the Blender IRC.
A long lasting Error in the Blender API has created ghost objects when changing the creation parameters of a sculptie in the Operator Panel. We found a workaround.
We no longer support Blender versions below 2.59. So please update at least to Blender 2.59 if you want to use this and newer updates of Primstar-2-dev. If you can not update for some reason, then please keep with the version 207 until you can update. Sorry for this inconvenience!
The vertex distribution feature controls have been improved. Instead of the cryptic curve controls, there is now a Center and Distribution setting for U and V. You should find these more intuitive to use. The distribution setting groups vertices around the center with positive values and away from the center with negative ones.
We still hope you like the new functionality.

We have created a sculptie templates blend file ( sculptie_lib.blend) which contains sample sculpties created with Primstar-2. These sculpties can be used as basis for your own creations without needing Primstar-2. The sculpt-map baking has been replaced by a material based render-bake. The library is available here:
The sculptie_lib.blend is made for Blender 2.5 and Blender 2.6. You do not need any additional script to use the library for making your artwork. But be aware that the material based bake does not create optimal results.
Please report back your experience with this library, so we might be able to improve its content over time.
This weeks update contains fixes for some recently reported bugs and a new function U/V curve which allows to create sculpted prims with non uniform face distributions along U and V.
We hope you like the new functionality.

This weeks update brings a significant change in the GUI. We found that the Bake function has been moved too far away. from focus. So we have moved it back to the Render Menu. Sculptify is now also available in edit mode (look at Mesh -> Sculptify). And baking can also be done again from within the edit mode.
We hope you like the changes.

After we changed our License for Primstar-2 last week, we now are thinking about offering an educational version of this product. We have not yet decided on that and your vote will help us to make the right decisions. Please visit the public voting panel on Domino Marama’s website and tell us what you want.
We offer a full refund to all customers who have purchased before september-21-2011
We make this offer because you have purchased Primstar-2 on the basis of an Open sourced license. This license has now been changed to a Fair End User License Agreement and will affect all future upgrades beginning with Relase Primstar-2-dev-175.
If you want to keep our customer, you need to do nothing at all. You will continue to recieve updates as planned.
If you think that our license change contradicts your own expectations and future plans, we give you the opportunity to request a full refund of your purchase until october-23-2011 . To request your refund, please send a notecard to Gaia Clary with the title:
<your avatar name>: Refund request Primstar-2
You do not need to explain in detail why you want to be refunded.
Sorry for the inconveniences to this change of our license terms. But we felt like we have to protect ourself and our customers from experiencing any loss of value.
I have taken some time to check our content for possible inaccuracies and missleading information and reorganization. I apologize for the long downtime. Here are the most apparent changes:
You now will find our clarified terms of usage in the upper left corner of most Blog pages.
At the same location you find quick links to all our product pages.
We also have rewritten the licenses inside the jass-distribution packages to become more clear about what is allowed and what can not be done.
We have added Paypal Payment for Primstar-2.
Important note about the Primstar-2 license
The license terms for the Primstar-2 distribution have been changed from GPL to a Fair Enduser License Agreement. The reasons for this change have been summarized by Domino Marama on his Website. I fully support these changes and i have nothing to add to his reasoning. You can find his notice here.
In short the most apparent change is that starting from release primstar-2-dev-175 on, the software can no longer be redistributed. We have meanwhile published this new Primstar-2 release and we have removed all earlier releases from the download inventories. You are not obliged to update your existing installations and the license changes only affect Primstar-2-dev-175 and the upcoming releases.
We hope that our current customers now feel better protected against loss of value. And we hope that our clarifications will encourage new users to join us. Thank you for your patience, appreciation and for any support you gave to us in the past, and hopefully will give to us in the future.
We have detected that parts of our videos have not been visible since 2 days. We found that the cause was an unintended update of a modified plugin. We fixed it and the videos are available again. Apologize for the inconvenience!
